The way of a horse's going is the truth of him.

For Estelle

February 2005

My friend Estelle Phifer died suddenly of complications resulting from an infection that she couldn't get treated because she had no insurance.  Her dream, her passion, and her life's work, was given to the preservation of her beloved Egyptian Arabian horses.  Dedication cannot be measured quantitatively, but rather by degree and even though she did not have the vast resources that many breeders do, Estelle gave 100% of what she did possess to her horses, whether it was resources, time, physical effort, every thought, or her very soul.  I grieve for her loss and as is so often the truth, her passing is a greater loss to the breed and to humanity than most people will ever realize.

I have carried on her dream to the extent that I am able by bringing to Blue Pyramid, San Aakefaa, San Emira Farazdac, San Baazinah, and Estelle's much loved Emir Ibn Farazdac "Himself" (see the stallion page).  Estelle called them her "Fab Four" and I will keep this little family together and try to honor her memory to the best of my abilities by continuing the course she set.

Several years ago I arrived at work to find a large sign on my desk that said  "Live the Dream."  A coworker, and friend, had for years listened to me talk about my life's dream of raising Arabian horses, and one day left me this simple, hand-written message that struck such a cord that it changed the rest of my life.  Why not live the dream?  There have been struggles, failures, and heartbreaks, but if there are no failures when you don't try, there are also no rewards. Once I believed that I really could make it all happen I just couldn't let go, and now after 10 years, the rest of the dream is finally being fulfilled, enabled in great part by Estelle.

I flew to Seattle to meet the mares that trace to Serenity Kamila and there was an instant recognition of the promise to be fulfilled.  Now both sides of the Nafa'a/Serenity Bint Nadia family are represented at Blue Pyramid Egyptians! The mares Dahloura and Shahloura, tracing to Nafa'a through Cedardell Tiffany, and San Aakefaa and San Baazinah, tracing through Serenity Kamila, form the foundation of the long dreamed of Blue Pyramid Egyptians' Kuhaylan ns conservation program.  They will eventually all be line bred to stallions that have Cedardell Tiffany or Serenity Kamila in their pedigrees, and we will see the strength of this precious Kuhaylan strain and the realization of Estelle's dream and mine.
