Shahloura (Shahdal x Dahloura) #0551451 02/28/97--07/31/09 Kuhaylan n.s. There was a time when I searched for a son of Imperial Imdal to breed to my mare. I liked Imdal very much, but he was at the height of his career and his stud fee was far beyond my means. I sent for video of his sons and found Shahdal. What a magnificient stallion he is. Before sending me the video, his owner, Bob Lloyd, put the video back in his camera and added onto the end, some pictures of Shahdal's young sons and daughters. They were all beautiful, but as they ran around their pasture, one little filly caught my eye. I can't say specifically what it was about her that so captured me, but by the end of the footage I knew she was special and phoned that night to ask about buying her.
Shortly after I got her, I received an email telling me that I had a very rare bloodline in Shahloura. I started searching for information about her and was put on a path that led me to the Nafa'a mares; a path that I still travel in search of more information. She was the first mare in the Nafa'a Conservancy. Shahloura very quickly became a
favorite with visitors. I sometimes had to caution people to leave their cars
outside the gate if Shahloura was out in the yard because she was fearless and
would nibble at new things she found curious. She would come right up to
strangers and look directly in their eyes and, because her eyes were so kind and
intelligent, they could not resist her.
Shahloura was sweet and affectionate and I loved her very much. She was my foundation mare. Her daughter Hilly is at BPE in Oklahoma and perhaps in September 2009, she gave me back a little bit of her mother. Shahloura will not, nor could she ever be replaced, but it is such a blessing to see her live on in her daughter and granddaughter. It was so hard to say goodbye and not feel a great pain and heaviness in my heart, but I could not watch her in excruciating pain every day; pain caused by deteriorated coffin bones that rotated, developed bone spurs, and made every step she took pure agony. After nearly a year of trying to save her, my vet and I agreed that it was the only humane thing to do. We both loved her too much to see her keep suffering. She passed in my arms and, although she is gone, she will always remain in my heart and my thoughts. You blessed me, Shahloura, and gave great meaning to my life. I will try to live up to the dream you gave me.
